When Malik brought the ball back in from the outfield, he handed it to Ms. Moriarty, who grinned and said, “Do you think we should have Zach autograph the ball?”

They all laughed. It had been a good game, but now Zach and Zoe knew it was time to get back to work. There was a real autographed ball out there that was missing. Out of sight, but not out of mind. At least not for the Walker twins.

When they got back to City Hall, Kari, Malik, Mateo, and the twins were brought inside a conference room. But for this week, it had been turned into what looked like the most awesome jewelry store in the world.

Because there, under a glass counter, were World Series rings. Some went as far back as the 1940s and 1950s. Others were from more recent years, like the one the Red Sox had gotten after they won the 2018 World Series against the Dodgers.

Zach and Zoe and their friends walked slowly past the rings. It was as if they were glowing inside the case. The woman behind the counter, Mrs. Keith, who worked for the real Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, explained some of the designs to them. She pointed out something the kids could see plainly enough for themselves.

With each year, the rings seemed to grow larger in size, with more diamonds and gemstones in each design.

“Some of them look as big as baseballs,” Zach whispered to his sister.
